ARC
What ARC means
ARC stands for Audio Return Channel. On a compatible TV, it allows audio to travel from the TV to a compatible soundbar or AV receiver through an HDMI connection, rather than requiring a separate audio cable.
The feature is associated with a particular HDMI connection on the TV and the matching connection on the audio device. Both devices must support ARC for the connection to work as intended.
Why ARC matters on TVFit
ARC can simplify a home entertainment setup when you want TV sound to play through external audio equipment. It may be relevant when comparing TVs with soundbars, AV receivers, or other HDMI-connected audio devices.
A product page showing Audio Return Channel (ARC): Yes indicates that the listed product has ARC as a catalogued capability. It does not indicate sound quality, volume, loudness, or the performance of a connected sound system.
ARC and eARC are not the same label
Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) is a related, enhanced version of the return-channel feature. A TV listed with ARC is not automatically listed with eARC, and an eARC specification should be checked separately.
ARC status alone also does not tell you which audio formats are supported, which HDMI port provides the feature, or whether a particular soundbar or receiver will meet your intended setup requirements.
What to check on a product page
When reviewing a TV on TVFit, check:
- Whether
Audio Return Channel (ARC)is listed as Yes or No. - Whether
Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC)is listed separately. - Which HDMI input or output is identified for ARC, if the product details provide that information.
- The connection requirements for the soundbar or receiver you plan to use.
- Any listed audio-format or HDMI details, since a simple ARC capability flag does not provide those specifications.
Nearby terms include eARC, HDMI, and soundbar.
