HDMI 2.1

HDMI 2.1 is a version of the HDMI connection standard that can support higher bandwidth and features such as eARC, VRR, and ALLM. A label alone does not confirm which features a TV implements.

What HDMI 2.1 means on a TV

HDMI 2.1 is a version of the HDMI connection standard. Compared with earlier HDMI versions, it can support higher bandwidth and may enable features such as 4K at higher refresh rates, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), and Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC).

The important word is may. HDMI 2.1 includes multiple capabilities, and a TV may support some of them without supporting all of them. The version label is therefore a capability reference, not a complete description of the TV's ports or performance.

Why TVFit buyers may care

HDMI 2.1 matters most when connecting a current game console, gaming PC, or other source that can output high-resolution video at a high refresh rate. VRR can also matter for compatible gaming setups, while eARC is relevant when sending higher-quality audio from the TV to a compatible soundbar or AV receiver.

A TVFit listing that mentions technologies such as Game Bar, Game Master, or Motion Clarity does not, by itself, confirm HDMI 2.1 or any particular HDMI 2.1 feature. Those are separate specifications and should be checked independently.

When it matters—and when it may not

HDMI 2.1 is more relevant if your equipment supports features that need its higher bandwidth or if you want specific functions such as VRR, ALLM, or eARC. It may matter less when your sources use older HDMI standards, when you do not use the TV for high-refresh-rate gaming, or when your audio setup does not require eARC.

The label also does not rate picture quality, motion handling, input response, build quality, or overall TV quality. It only identifies a connection-standard version and possible feature set.

What to check on the product page

Look for details beyond a general “HDMI 2.1” label:

  • The number of HDMI ports identified as HDMI 2.1
  • The stated bandwidth or supported video modes for each port
  • Whether 4K at the claimed refresh rate is supported
  • Separate listings for VRR, ALLM, and eARC
  • Any notes about which ports support gaming or audio-return features
  • Whether the specification applies to all ports or only selected inputs

If the product page lists HDMI 2.1 without these details, the exact implementation remains unknown. Do not assume that every port supports every optional HDMI 2.1 feature.
